16-year-old single malt from the fantastic Aberfeldy distillery, unveiled in the latter half of 2015 as part of the Last Great Malts series. Aberfeldy whiskies are produced using a long fermentation, up to 70 hours, which gives them a rich, honeyed, and fruity flavor long established as the house style.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Raisins and cinnamon at first, before moving onto butterscotch, caramel and apple slice. A touch of floral malt, too. Soft notes of honey, freshened with citrus, which gives way to spiced pears, studded with cloves, and drizzled with caramel.
Palate: Well-rounded and mellow, but not lazy at all. More apple at first, soon joined by clementine segments and honey on toast. A spark of ginger. This well-balanced dram is at first sweet and rich like fruit cake but ends satisfyingly with a hint of dark chocolate. Longer fermentation for honeyed richness.
Finish: Waxy peels and oak.
