This Texas-produced spirit has the freshness and verve of traditional corn whisky, but with a refined complexity. The nose displays notes of melted butter, kettle corn, vanilla, toffee, cinnamon and nutmeg, along with fresh bread, honey, freshly ground coffee and baking chocolate. On the palate, there are overtones of tropical fruit, apricot, brown sugar, cotton candy, sweet tea with lemon and smoked chilis. The medium long finish is warming, with cinnamon, leather, spice, mint and green peppercorns. Uniquely made with atole, a rich and nutty roasted blue corn meal, distilled twice and aged in five-gallon oak barrels, this craft spirit is the state’s first whisky since Prohibition; it also has the distinction of being the only whisky in the world to be produced with blue corn. Its round nuttiness, roasted overtones and smooth finish earned it a Silver medal in the 2014 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
