The Fettercairn Distillery has some serious history behind it. The business was founded in 1824 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, one of the Scottish landowners who campaigned to license Scotch Whiskey distillation. He was also one of the first to apply for a license, which he applied to Fettercairn. Interestingly, Ramsay employed illegal whiskey makers to be his first stillmen.

An invitation to enjoy the tropical essence of our house style. The body of this Highland Single Malt offers delicious grilled pineapple and the purest Madagascan vanilla, giving way to passion fruit, rich honey and fragrant rose petals. The finish is a flourish of mandarin, cacao and slow baked ginger. Natural color and non chill filtered.

Wine Enthusiast 2025 Rating: 95 Pts.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Darker in character than the 12. Noticeable oak and earthy heft on the nose. Brown sugar, brown butter, Jaffa Cakes, dark chocolate, and hazelnuts. Not too tropical here, but a hint of something like mango salsa. Not so much overt sherry either, at least not at first. Some macerated berries and fruitcakes emerge with time.

Palate: Medium texture, slightly oily. Arrives with honey, raspberries, sour cherry pie, and maple syrup. Rich oak and leather emerge as the whisky develops, along with, again, a tropical twist – this time into pineapple. Caramel and white chocolate headed into the finish.

Finish: Medium-length, sweet with lingering oak spice. Pineapple, Granny Smiths, nectarines, and ginger candies.
