Fukano Vault Reserve 2 is the one of four limited release whiskies exported in 2018 from the craft distillery. Like the other Fukano rice whiskies– it started life as undiluted honkaku (once distilled) Hitoyoshi rice shochu.
A delightful fruity specimen, with lime, Asian pear, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, melon, taffy, and a hint of white pepper. More tropical fruit notes to enjoy on the tongue: papaya, dried melon strips, passion fruit, melon, and fruit syrups all floating along on a slick of gooey caramel.
Like Vault Reserve 1, Vault Reserve 2 has a nutty and citrusy profile. It’s a little sweeter, rounder, and spicier though. Notes include sea salt caramel, caramel apple, fresh cedar, fig, lime peel, fresh peach, brown sugar, coconut, and vanilla. Overall, it is smooth and soft rice whisky with an aromatic profile and hints of ex-Bourbon cask maturation.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: The aroma is light and floral with notes of jasmine, flamed zest, almonds, and orange blossom honey.
Flavor: The flavor profile is interesting with almost Sherry-like notes and butterscotch.
Finish: The finish is complex with notes of flan and vanilla.
