Hampden Estate Pagos Old Single Jamaican Rum

Taking its name from the Spanish word used to describe plots of vineyards in the Jerez area, Hampden Estate Pagos is the distillery’s reference to be exclusively aged in Sherry casks. Like the world’s most aromatic whiskies, such as those produced on Islay, the Jamaican rum embraces perfectly with the Andalusian wine’s notes of rancio without being overpowered by them, leading to a completely new profile of aromas.

Ageing in ex-Sherry casks has been common practice in the world of whisky for decades. Even if some of the most sought-after, complex single malts have benefited from this type of ageing vessel for many years, this process is not often seen in the world of rum: Pagos is a world premiere, the first ever experiment to age Hampden Estate rum in ex-Sherry casks.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Rich and complex. The nose reveals notes of clove, toasted walnut, blood orange, apricot stone, and brandied cherry. Almonds, followed by hints of dates, and a touch of coffee liqueur.

Palate: Bold and lively. Cane sugar, chestnut honey, and tropical flowers notes. Vanilla and cocoa beans follow, adding subtle tannins. The aftertaste is marked by notes of camphor and geranium.

Finish: Long and full. The finish is refreshed by coconut milk, and honeysuckle scents, along with notes of varnish. The aftertaste brings light tobacco notes, lime blossom, peppery rose, coriander.

It is the perfect bottle to appeal to rum enthusiasts and fans of Sherry cask single malts alike.
