Act. 13 - Scene 11 - A blend of Straight Rye Whiskey

High West Midwinter Night's Dram Rye whiskey was released in 2014 on Valentine's Day. It is named for Shakespeare's A Midwinter Night's Dream--the famous comedy about love.

The whiskey itself is a take on their Rendezvous Rye whiskey--itself a blend of two rye whiskeys that is meant for a classic and unfiltered traditional take on the rye genre--and then let it rest a bit longer in port wine barrels and French Oak barrels. This gives the rye whiskey a light color and subtle wine note. In the press release, they suggest looking for flavor notes of "plum pudding" and "lovely mulling spices." High West Distillery is proud of both its small status and its western roots. It is currently restoring a 100-year-old livery stable as its future home and the horseshoes in the logo are meant to honor that tradition. In Utah, they are at an altitude of 7,000 feet in the Rockies.

They hope that by enjoying their product the consumer is celebrating their "gumption" at bringing spirits back to Utah. Aged for up to 16 years, this limited edition, is a blend of straight rye whiskeys, finished in port and French oak barrels. Aged in new, charred, white American oak and finished in French oak port barrels.

Tasting Notes:

Aromas of Black current, dried dates, sugar plums, maple candied pecans, marzipan, vanilla caramel, and toasted French oak spice.

Flavors of Rich and full bodied with dried fruits, fig syrup, and candied ginger.

The Finish is Abounding with spiced blackberries, clove, and cinnamon.

49.3% ABV / 98.6 Proof
