Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel 2021 Special Release Coy Hill High Proof. This year’s annual special release celebrates Coy Hill which is the highest-elevated rolling hill on the Jack Daniel Distillery property. This rare high-proof release honors the art of the whiskey-making process, as well as showcases how a barrel house location along with the extreme weather and maturation conditions produces an exceptional whiskey flavor. This one-of-kind Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel bottle should remain upright at all times unless you are pouring it into a glass to enjoy. The location that a barrel of whiskey ages in the warehouse or rickhouse has a huge effect on the maturation process. The lower floors in the warehouse tend to stay moist and cool which ends up netting out the lowest proof in the warehouse. On the other hand, the top of the warehouse tends to be hot and dry and ends up netting out the highest proof barrels in the warehouse. In the case of the Jack Daniel’s Coy Hill release these single barrels were aged on Coy Hill. The Coy Hill rickhouse sits on the highest hill on the Jack Daniel Distillery property. And these barrels selected for the 2021 release were kept on the top floors of the highest rickhouse. The result is the highest proof Jack Daniel’s single barrel release ever with a range between 137.4 proof (68.7% ABV) and 148.3 proof (74.15% ABV). Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill High Proof will be an uncut Tennessee whiskey, aged in either barrel house 8 or 13. The label shows a 140-proof bottling, but the proof will vary depending on which barrel each bottle comes from. The label also notes that it was processed using “minimum filtration to sustain its unique flavor profile.” This Special Release Series highlights our innovation in whiskey-making here at Jack Daniel Distillery. Hand-selected from the highest parts of our barrel houses and bottled from single barrels. We extend this one-of-a-kind craftsmanship to you. Aged up in the “buzzard’s roost” of our barrel houses on Coy Hill and bottled uncut at higher proof. Tasting Notes: Nose: Full-bodied aroma.
