Saint Germain liqueur seems to bottle the taste of the these warm floral notes. Still produced in an artisanal manner, the liqueur is made from flowers that are gathered from the hillsides in the French Alps during a short four- to-six-week period in spring. According to the company’s website, the picked flowers are bicycled to a collection depot (yep, bicycled) where they are immediately macerated to preserve the fresh flavors of the bloom.

Extracting the flavors of this flower is not an easy process, and the Saint Germain company keeps theirs a family secret. Each bottle of Saint Germain is individually numbered, reflecting the year in which the flowers were picked. And while we can appreciate the great lengths taken to make this liqueur, what we really like is how it livens up a cocktail with sweet and aromatic flavors that hint of pear and lychee. Check out the cocktails you can make below.

The world’s first artisanal French liqueur, made with up to 1,000 fresh, wild, handpicked elderflower blossoms in every bottle.

The seductive bouquet offers wonderfully floral, fruity, guava- and melon-like fragrances of elderflower, becoming richly pear- and quince-like following aeration time. The palate entry is soft and firm; the midpalate is integrated, harmonious and exquisitely balanced between alcohol level, sweetness, acidity and floral impact. A perfect liqueur.

Tasting Notes:

St-Germain Liqueur starts out with the marriage of fresh elderflowers to eau de vie, followed by a unique macerating technique that extracts the delicate flavor of the elderflower. The sublime taste hints at pear, peach and grapefruit creating an extraordinary flavor unknown in other liqueur brands. The crisp mélange of flavors are as subtle and delicate as they are captivating. Sweetness - Exceedingly low relative to other liqueurs, allowing for a more subtle flavor profile, greater versatility in mixing cocktails and a fresh finish.
