The origins of this whiskey are equally impressive – in 2004, volunteer firefighter Jess Graber was called to a neighbor's barn fire down the road. That barn belonged to George Stranahan, a long-time liquor connoisseur and founder of Flying Dog Brewery. Unable to save the burning barn, the two sat around the smoldering ashes and started talking. They discovered a shared passion for Colorado outdoors and a good pour of fine whiskey. Soon afterward, they developed a recipe for the smooth, flavorful, and unique whiskey that is Stranahan' s®, and the rest is delicious history.

THE FIRST ROCKY MOUNTAIN SINGLE MALT

This is the number one American single malt whiskey in the US. Born in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and hand-crafted from barley to bottle in our distillery. Our whiskey is non-chill filtered & well-built in small batches.

The first (legal) whiskey to come out of Colorado, Stranahan's is one of the rarest and most sought after American spirits. Their whiskey is unique – made of 100% Rocky Mountain malted barley and aged in new white American Oak barrels, it's mostly a hybrid of Scotch and Bourbon with a Colorado soul. Each batch of Stranahan's has its unique character, and many batches have already been awarded" liquid gold" status from Jim Murray's celebrated Whiskey Bible. Each bottle has a handwritten label with comments from the distilling team on what they are doing during the production process, and every batch is hand-bottled by a group of local whiskey-loving volunteers.

While we maintain the quality and base standards of each batch, no two batches are precisely the same. Every barrel is unique and imparts it’s own characteristics onto the final product.

Stranahan’s Original is 100% barley: double-distilled from a proprietary blend of four malted barleys sourced exclusively from Colorado. Aged in our virgin-charred American white oak barrels, the 4-year old whiskey is Solera finished to create a rich, mellow whiskey and is cut with Rocky Mountain water. Best enjoyed neat, with a splash of water, or in cocktails.

Full-bodied as the fire that bore it, Stranahans whiskey glowed amber from the start. Stranahan's is It is handmade in small batches from malted barley, aged for a minimum of two years in new American white oak barrels, then cut to proof with Rocky Mountain Spring Water.
